How to Make Caramelized Shredded Coconut Candy

    


Hi Foodies! Today I have an exciting dessert recipe to share. This dessert is one of my favorite childhood sweet food, I remember when I was in kindergarten, all of my friends love to eat this! Bukayo, also known as coconut candy, is a popular Filipino delicacy made from grated coconut mixed with sugar and sometimes food coloring. Having it in a different color is sure fun as a kid! If you are planning to serve it to your children adding some colors will make them happy! Here's a simple recipe to make Bukayo at home:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups grated coconut
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • food coloring (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, heat the sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add in the grated coconut and stir until well combined.
  3. Add in food coloring if desired.
  4. Continue cooking and stirring the mixture until it starts to thicken and the liquid has been fully absorbed by the coconut.
  5. Once the mixture becomes sticky and starts to pull away from the pan, remove it from the heat.
  6. Grease a flat surface or tray with oil or butter.
  7. Pour the mixture onto the greased surface and spread it evenly using a spatula.
  8. Allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  9. Once cooled, cut the mixture into small squares or desired shapes.
  10. Serve and enjoy your homemade Bukayo!
